Start with the mark you actually use

Prepare the exact spelling of the name and a clear version of the logo, if relevant. Explain whether you are planning a launch or already trading. This gives your adviser a useful starting point for assessing the proposed protection.

Describe your business in practical terms

List what you sell now and what you expect to offer next. A product description is more useful than choosing a class number without context. Keep separate the goods you make, the services you provide and the way you sell them.

Choose markets deliberately

Bring a list of current and planned markets, any earlier applications, and known competing brands. Ask for a written search scope and a fee proposal before moving to filing. A search assessment is not a promise of registration.
